Yipeng Liu gives a talk on the seminar of CiPES.
This month’s seminar of the Center for Intelligent Power and Energy Systems (CiPES) was held on December 11, 2020. It is a monthly event for the students of CiPES to share their researches. On this seminar, Mr. Yipeng Liu from AEPCL gave a talk titled as “Interleave CapacitiveCoupler for Wireless Power Transfer”.
Capacitivepower transfer is becoming an attractive alternate for wireless chargers. Acoupler with large self and mutual capacitance is desirable from the power and efficiencyperspective. However, state-of-the-art couplers suffer from the trade-off designissue between these two types of capacitance. In order to improve the requiredcapacitance, an interleaved capacitive coupler is proposed and evaluated basedon the Maxwell based simulation. Using more plates, it can effectively use thecoupling space to maintain the required self and mutual capacitance, whileminimize the cross coupling effects. Meanwhile, the new coupler is also helpfulto reduce the radioactive electric field, and the high-radiation region isreduced dramatically. In the experiment, three types of couplers are built withthe same coupling space, compensations, and output power. The proposedinterleaved structure can achieve the highest efficiency and minimum radiation.
